Review
The Robert Schumann Philharmonie (of Chemnitz, Germany), and its celebrated conductor Oleg Caetani, presenting all favourite Wagnerian overtures and preludes. Those of us for whom time is in short supply will undoubtedly appreciate the fact that this disc allows us to enjoy such pieces without having to wade through hours of operas to get to them. Featured tracks include numbers from master works such as: Der fliegende Holländer (The flying Dutchman); Lohengrin ; Tannhäuser ; Die Walküre (The Ryde of the Valkyries); and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Moreover, as a special bonus a world premier recording of the overture from the somewhat rare König Enzio .

Highest recommendation.
You'll hear a robust horn section in the in both the Tannhäuser and Flying Dutchman Overtures, and far superior trombone playing --a fine cutting tone that never turns coarse. The strings in the Lohengrin Prelude to Act 1 phrase in rapt arches, abetted by a comparatively swift tempo that makes the opening sound like a series of musical phrases rather than a collection of detached violin harmonics. Listen to the tangy timbre of the trumpets at the opening of the Meistersinger Prelude, and to the lusciously fruity tone of the woodwind section coloring the brass in the processional theme.Overall, Robert Schumann Philharmonie plays with luster and rhythmic thrust and DTS-HD Master Audio captures the full dynamic range of the aorchestra with impressive clarity and realism. This is a stunning program, sure to delight and tease Wagnerians.

Some of the best Wagner you can find
Wagner was always great at conveying orchestral beauty, and while that alone won't carry along a whole opera, that approach works wonders in this format. The Hollander overture is given an absolutely shimmering reading, and the Tannhauser music is truly lovely! The same goes for the Lohengrin music; the prelude sounds positively otherwordly!
But nothing comes close to the touching of the 7.1 Master Audio that made me sure that no nuance was missed. This disc is absolutely essential for any Wagner admirer, or for any music-lover, really.

Music in DTS-HD Master Audio
This was one of the very first Blu-ray recordings I ever owned. I got it as soon after buying Sony 550 Blu-ray player. I listened to this excellent performance again and again amazed at the quality of the sound this great new medium provided. I was hooked. There was no going back to CD.
